First things first, we need to establish what event predictions are, the basis on which they are given out, and the factors that distinguish them from the other types of predictions. There are various situations wherein we would like to know the occurrence of the event before its actual happening, like the occurrence of a storm or a famine, the failure of some kind of an appliance, etc. Such are the places where event predictions are most widely required to be used.
Distinguishing features:
The one thing that distinguishes an event prediction from other forms of predictions is that, in event predictions; apart from predicting the occurrence of the event, it is most often required to predict finer details, like the period of occurrence of the event, the consequences of the event, etc. The finer details of a particular event prediction are relative to the type of prediction, and the area in which the event prediction is made.
Steps followed:
The course of steps involved in giving out an event prediction is what needs to be considered next. Most of the event predictions are given out by tracing the pattern followed by similar happenings in the past. The particular event prediction is then said to turn true if it either tends to complete the pattern or at least tends to follow the same pattern. In such a case, the particular event prediction is issued.
While some times, it is necessary to predict the exact instant of occurrence of an event, most of the times; it is sufficient if the time interval between which the event occurs is known. This, however, might lead to the event prediction being ambiguous. This is because, an event prediction may be issued only once, but there might be various other events occurring within the same interval as the predicted event. To resolve the same, there are many methods and algorithms that are made use of while preparation of the event predictions. |
